Easy alerts you can set up today

Did you know that you can get alerts about what’s going on with your credit card?

Alerts are an easy way to keep track of your money and help protect your accounts. You can use them to receive automatic, real-time notifications by text or email when certain events happen or when changes are made to your online banking account.

Real-time alerts can help you manage your money, as they bring immediate awareness to your spending. They can also help you identify potentially fraudulent transactions, giving you peace of mind.

Most financial institutions offer this type of service. They are simple to set up, plus you can customize your alerts to get just the information you want.

Below is a rundown of the alerts you can set up at Vancity. If you ever receive an alert for an activity that you didn’t do or that seems suspicious, contact us right away to secure your account.

Vancity enviro visa cards

You can set up the following five transactional alerts on any of your personal Vancity enviro Visa credit cards.

1. Outside Canada

This alert will let you know when someone uses your credit card for a foreign transaction, including ATM cash withdrawals.

Consider using this alert to manage your spending while travelling abroad or to watch for potentially fraudulent foreign transactions when you’re at home.

2. Purchase amount

This alert will let you know when someone makes a purchase over a set amount on your credit card (you determine the amount).

Consider using this alert to remind yourself of large purchases and help you stick to your budget.

3. Online/phone transactions

This alert will let you know when someone uses your credit card for a transaction online or over the phone.

Consider using this alert to manage your online spending as well as to quickly identify if someone has made unauthorized transactions.

4. Cash withdrawal

This alert will let you know when someone uses your credit card to withdraw cash from an ATM.

Consider using this alert to monitor whether your credit card has been lost or stolen (resulting in a cash withdrawal). This alert can also serve as a reminder that interest starts accruing immediately when you withdraw cash from a credit card, so it’s best to pay the money back as soon as possible.

5. Transaction declined

This alert will let you know when a transaction on your credit card is declined.

Consider using this alert to monitor whether your credit card has been lost or stolen. This alert may also let you know when you’ve reached your credit limit.
