We’re only a few months into 2023, but it’s never too early to start thinking about your financial future. If you’ve ever wondered how your astrological sign might impact your financial success, you’re in luck.
We recently worked with Heidi from Tarot Times With Heidi, along with expert financial advisor Tina Cheung, to dive deep into the world of money and astrology. Here’s what they had to say about planning for success this year, based on your astrological sign.
Your 2023 financial horoscope
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
2023 favours business growth for Aries. You can expect lots of luck and transformation this year. New things are coming, and this is a time to embrace your individuality and let go of your ego.
This year, your biggest challenge will be learning to slow down and focus on the long term. If you want to invest for the future, a term deposit or a Vancity RRSP is a smart place to start.
Term deposits are fixed-term investments which offer guaranteed interest rates so you know exactly how much you’ll get back at the end. RRSPs allow you to defer tax while you save for retirement, giving you financial security at the end of your working life. You can also withdraw from your RRSP once if you plan to buy a home.
Both options contribute to your long-term financial security, in 2023 and beyond.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
For Taurus, fulfillment of desires is at its peak this year. This includes money-related desires. You may want to explore investment opportunities – but don’t be hasty.
Those who invest patiently and stick with their investments over time, often see an increase in their portfolio. Consider investing your money into a guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) which guarantees a rate of return over a certain amount of time. GICs are safe, secure investments that won’t bow under market pressure.
Remember to have patience and trust that these investments will pay off in the long run, and avoid withdrawing your money at the first sign of economic uncertainty.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Gemini is a sign associated with communication, intelligence, and adaptability. In 2023, Geminis should focus on planning for the future.
If you haven’t already, it’s time to consider getting pre-approved for a home loan or taking advantage of the new First Home Savings Account (FHSA). This is a new savings account that was introduced by the Government of Canada in 2022. FHSAs allow you to save for your first home, tax-free. Unlike an RRSP, withdrawing money from your FHSA to buy a home won’t be taxable – so you can feel confident that your money will go further.
Cancer (June 22 – July 22)
Cancer is a sign associated with empathy, loyalty, and ambition. But, Cancer can also see the world with rose-coloured glasses and may be vulnerable to illusion, manipulation, and fantasy.
In 2023, Cancers should be wary of financial fraud. Take steps to protect yourself from scams. Be mindful of emails that ask for personal information, links that might contain malicious software, and possible phishing attempts.
Remember, Vancity will never ask for your SIN number over the phone, nor will we remotely log into your computer to tell you to sign into your account. Brush up on our fraud prevention tips and familiarize yourself with common financial scam types this year.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Leo will be encouraged to look inward, rather than relying on old ways of approaching creative projects. This is a time to try something new. Things that may have hurt you in the past will become more important to address this year.
This might mean staying the course, especially when it comes to your financial portfolio. If your plan and risk haven’t changed, it would be wise to stick with it. You may be tempted to get caught up in the noise of the market, but try to remain level-headed and remember why you made the decisions you did in the first place.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Virgo season is the perfect time to release heavy judgments about being perfect or not enough. It’s also a time to let go of the struggle and accept the hard work.
This might mean focusing on budgeting and saving. Are there areas in your life where you can be more frugal? Are there expenses you can cut? Even eating out less or making coffee at home more often can make a big difference in your monthly spending. Small changes can go a long way!
If you haven’t yet, consider setting up automatic withdrawals for a savings account and RRSP. Having a rainy day fund is a great way to feel confident in your ongoing choices.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
For Libras, it’s time to shed anything that no longer serves you, or brings you life. Financially, this may mean eliminating financial subscriptions you’re no longer using. Did you sign up for Peloton during the pandemic? Have you neglected your Amazon Prime subscription for months or even years? Now is the time to weed out anything that no longer adds value to your life, and bring in what will.
It’s also a great time to start a budget or revise your current one if you already have one. Consider how much money you spend on items such as takeout, streaming services, and other small-time purchases. Are there opportunities to reduce expenses? Can you bundle streaming services, or use a family plan for your phone or internet bills? A little bit of research might uncover previously unseen ways you can save.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)
For Scorpio, it’s time to tap into your values and align your financial decisions accordingly. Consider what is important to you and how those values can shape how you manage your money. Take the time to review all of your investments, savings, and credit cards to ensure that they are in line with your ideals.
This could mean transitioning over to a sustainable bank or credit union, reviewing funds and stocks so you can divest from companies that are not aligned with your values, or switching to a fossil fuel-free investment portfolio.
Living in your values will help ring in a year of peace and gratitude.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 22)
The time has come for Sagittarius to let go of dogma, idealism, and all the possible plans that could have happened. Take a realistic look at your finances and start planning for a future you can count on.
Maybe you always wanted to buy a home, but have recently realized you don’t need a lot of square footage. Does this bring your budget down? Are you interested in a tiny home, or an alternative living style?
Getting pre-approved for a mortgage is easier when you know what kind of future you want to work towards, and how much you can afford.
Capricorn (December 23 – January 20)
Capricorns are known for their ambition and determination, and their approach to money should embody this.
Now is the time to compartmentalize your savings and be mindful of the long-term. Set up different accounts for different goals, such as retirement, emergency funds, or investing. Make sure you know what rate of return you are getting on each account and how much risk is involved in your investments.
You may also want to start having courageous conversations about contingency funds and insurance. Make sure you have enough money set aside for a rainy day, as well as enough insurance to cover any unexpected medical bills or other serious expenses that may arise.
Aquarius (January 21 – Feb 21)
Aquarius is great at seeing the bigger picture and understanding financial trends. Take 2023 as an opportunity to examine how your finances will work for you in the long run. Pull out your bank statements, credit card bills, and investment portfolio. Look at how your assets are allocated, review the performance of each asset, and consider which investments might offer better returns or reduced risk in the future.
Are there areas you can improve? You might consider skipping food delivery a few days a month and investing that money instead. Even saving an extra $50 a week can add up to $2,400 a year. This kind of long-term financial planning may be hard work, but it will pay off in the end. Take this time during Aquarius season to plan for your financial future and create a strong foundation that will benefit you for years to come.
Pisces (Feb 22 – March 20)
Now is the time for reflection, Pisces. Check-in on your finances: how are your loans progressing? Could a rainy day fund or an RRSP be the next step in your financial plan?
Preparing for the unexpected will be important in 2023. Take this time to start building up a nest egg. Even if it’s just a few dollars each week, making small contributions will add up in the long run.
