With a population that is 65 per cent Asian, Richmond, B.C. has an impressive diversity of cultures and cuisines. In recent years, numerous media outlets have recognized Richmond as a viable culinary destination and now more visitors than ever go to try local favourites.
In response, a number of new Asian restaurants have sprung up, ranging from bubble tea shops and noodle bars to elegant fine dining banquet rooms. Of course eating out shouldn’t break your budget, so here are my top 5 budget eateries in Richmond:
Prata Man
Prata Man serves up affordable Singaporean food. Their most popular dish is the Hainanese Chicken with rice and soup for only $7.25. While you are here, make sure to also grab some BBQ satay skewers, laksa, and some curry.
They are cash only, so make sure you head to the bank ahead of time.

Kumare
Kumare is a Filipino eatery close to Richmond Town Centre. They have breakfast combos for under $10 until 4 pm, daily. Have you ever heard of a longsilog (sausage), tapsilog (cured beef), tocilog (cured sweet pork) or the bangsilong (fried boneless baby milkfish?) Don’t be intimidated by the names of these dishes, they are all super delicious.
One of my favourite items to order is the Chicken Arroz Caldo Congee for $6.50. This huge bowl of chicken congee is served with hard boiled egg, garlic and green onion. You can also get their addictive BBQ Pork Skewers for $3.50.

LA Chicken
